Help me expose Life, death, diet and corruption in the California state prisons system.
It has been my wish, since I was exposed to veganism and natural foods, to bring this to the people who usually never get a chance to hear the word, nor get access to, healing, non-toxic diets and foods.
For me, bringing this way of life, and this focus on integrative health, to the underclass in California, particularly kids in the ghettos and people in the penal system has become a driving idea in my heart and mind, as I feel that it is a test of the true power and commitment of not only the vegan movement, but also the activist movement of the left.
I consider it a challenge that we try make this work on a street level, and expose lower class kids and adults to this way of thinking.
I have recently decided to embark on a free-form study of the California state penal system, diet, and the vendors chosen to serve "food" to the prisoners in the California state penal system.
Recently, Melanoma, and other forms of cancer are appearing in inmates who had no record of these diseases before entering the prison population. It is evident that environmental as well as dietary factors contribute to this.I also think it would be possible to include a green super food to the list of allowed foods in the California penal system
Also I am compiling information in the process of becoming a vendor (a requirement for bring food into the prison system) and other ways to improve diet among inmates.
This information, I intend to package, speak on, and get funding for solutions. My forte is public speaking, however my ability to crunch numbers and data is seriously in question.
Anyone having ideas, information, reports, or wishing to join me in uncovering one of California's worst corruption and mistreatment scandals, where diet is used as a weapon, are invited to email, or message me. I will not be the head or leader of anything. If any change is to take effect in San Quentin, it will require a whole lot more than me.

Mon, April 23, 2007 - 11:16 AMI think this is a great thing you're trying to do. I'm not a vegetarian but eat as healthy as possible...fresh, local and organic.
If you look at the studies done in Appleton, Wisconsin www.feingold.org/PF/wisconsin1.html you have to wonder why this isn't mandatory for schools AND prisons. I recently watched a documentary on womens prisons and could not believe the crap they eat and get to buy in there - cases of soda, cigarettes, candy in their cells. All I (and the other two people watching w/ me) could think is how could this be a good thing? Maybe if we worked harder on educating while criminals are locked up, they might not be repeat offenders and end up right back in prison.
Anyhow, good luck to you and this great cause. -

Mon, April 30, 2007 - 4:39 AMAgreed! Everyone should have the right to good food. Reminds me of an incident in Thailand a few years back. An ice tea company "Oishi" had ads promoting the wonderful health benefits of tea but when you look at the small prints of their products, there’s no genuine tea in it, it’s all flavorings and sugar.

update
Mon, April 30, 2007 - 8:46 AMwe got San Quentin administration to allow visitors to speak on alternative nutrition, and so we asked Matthew and Terces Engelhart, the owners of Cafe gratitude to speak and they said yes! we are also speaking with Robert Sillen who is the Receiver for San Quentin's medical care system, and Jane Russell who is involved with approving Vendors. My friend Tamara From the Naroga institute facilitated the whole thing.
The Idea has sped past all expectations. thanks to all for the help. I think this proves that sometimes all you need is a good idea, a properly placed word, and some good timing and you can make things happen that no one thought possible.
again, thanks to all who helped.
