Sprouted Almonds

I just bought a big bag of organic almonds....deciding whether make the investment of stocking up before the pasteurization law comes into effect.

Can anyone remind me how long to soak them for in order for them to sprout, it's been awhile. Also maybe some good smoothie recipes....I was thinking sprouted almonds, raw cacao, coconut butter and agave

    Hi Madhurima ;o)

You know, i am not knowledgeable on the sprouting almond subject, though I have a new smoothie recipe(well actually more like a shake) that i am really loving soooo much right now.

I take about 5 blanched almonds, 3 Tablespoons of ground raw hemp powder, 1 cup plain almond milk and I blend it all together.. you can add dates to this if desired also green food like green vibrance or something. Blend for about 2 minutes and wahlah.... yumminess at your service :o) It feels so nourishing to drink and completely satisfying.

Interested in the sprouted almonds.... sounds great. I like your idea for the smoothie recipe too yum yum!!!

Hey there, soaking them overnight will do the trick. Be warned not to soak too many at once, they double in size post soaked. If you don't eat all of your recently overnight soaked almonds at once i recommend storing them for later use submerged in fresh water, in the fridge. They'll keep a few days this way, if left out they will oxidize quickly and taste less good and nutrirnt value will decline. A wonderfull thing to make with soaked almonds in addition to whatever smoothie your wild creative being comes up with is to blend a bunch of almonds with some water into a goop like paste, add herbs if you so desire... let this sit out on top of your fridge overnight. In the mourning you have seed cheese, filled with beneficial bacterias and predigested protiens, a great source of amino acids especially for all you vegans out there. If you let it ferment for much longer than one night you won't like the smell or taste, but it is actually incrediblly therapudic.

So my "raw" almonds didn't budge when I soaked them overnight. 6 days later, they're still soaking : ( I think it's time to throw in the towel and admit I bought some faulty Almonds.

Well, what were you waiting for, did you expect them to get up and dance? Once a seed or nut swells up the're good to go, you've activated the enzymes inside them and washed off the enzyme inhibitors. This is when you eat them. Almonds will take a long time to grow a tail and at that point you won't want to eat them!

There is hope for you yet....

Almonds: Soak 10-14 hours, sprout 1.0 day. Method: cloth Use only unblanched almonds. Sprout+storage time should not exceed 2 days or sprouts may turn rancid. Best to peel sprouts before eating (peeled have incredible flavor). Peeling is tedious, reduced by blanching in warm water (15-30 seconds in hot water from faucet). One of the very best sprouts!
