Taro

topic posted Fri, April 6, 2007 - 7:49 AM by  Jed
Anyone here heard of or are you a big fan of the pacific island root vegetable Taro..

I ate it a lot in New Zealand... It's said to have a natural steroid quality but that claim has never been substantiated... Can anyone shed any light on this claim

Thank you

No!.. Course I didn't eat it raw..

It'll make yer mouth go bright pink and swollen if you eat it raw..

    Taro is awesome, very tasty.

There is a huge population of pacific island people here in SF, so you can imagine it's readily available in a lot of grocery stores.

How about yucca root or malanga?

I don't know much about it except that it is the most hypoallergenic food in the world and it's closely related to taro and the popular houseplant spathyphylum. Also known as Japanese potatoes.

Taro is yummy and taro burgers are too, although I went raw and have not eaten one recently.

Also the root of the taro is used to make poi which does have many healing benefits... steroid qualities I am not so sure about, although many claim it aids in losing weight, but what doesn't these days??
